The Gospel Through Music

Advent Now! is a musical ensemble from Lee University comprised of a vocal quintet, a string quintet, a pianist, an electric bass player, and a percussionist (13 people). During our eighteen days in Japan, we will perform over twenty concerts. We will share the joy of Christmas music, from classical to jazz and black gospel in style, and invite audiences to join us is singing a couple of Christmas carols in Japanese.

Before we travel to Japan we will be performing concerts in and around our community in Cleveland, Tennessee, to educate people about Japanese culture and about our trip.

Our hosts will be Christian churches, which form a small religious minority in Japan. We will share meals and activities with our hosts. We hope to learn from and to encourage our hosts through these times of cultural exchange.

After concerts we will have opportunities to talk and interact with members of the audience, including a wide spectrum of community members. We hope to gain respect and understanding for Japanese culture by engaging with Japanese people firsthand. We look forward to learning about their ways of life and the values they hold dear.
